I started AI Supremacy about 2.5 years ago to cover some of the bigger geopolitical, technological and BigTech tensions that the AI race would bring. For the most part I think I’ve done that, but I know I can improve (help me do this by completing the survey).

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to take a little moment sharing some of our growth as a Newsletter. There is some good news and bad news.
Read to the end if you think the bad news might be important. If you can fill out the survey above, I’ll share those details too soon.
If you believe in what I do and want access to my deeper dives, feel free to support.
It’s an honor and a privilege trying to cover AI, curate some of the News and cover topics that many of the popular rundowns in the space don’t cover in much detail.
When I started there were less than five major AI Newsletters on Substack, now there are dozens to hundreds. This is great for the ecosystem and learning, but difficult for Newsletter operators like me who depend on paid subscriptions to earn a basic liveable wage.
It’s also been super interesting finding guest contributors to cover fields like education, macroeconomics, culture, semiconductors and so many other topics at the intersection of AI. You can read many of the guest posts here. Managing guest writers and native sponsors it turns out is incredibly time consuming.
It’s the summer, and many of you aren’t around to be reading this, so I’ll be pretty brief. This is also data that can help other writers. To learn more about what I offer and my journey read my table of contents.
Guide to A.I. Supremacy topics and articles (4 months old)
We continue to be one of the most widely read AI publications on Substack’s entire global ecosystem. It’s nice to reach a milestone like this. Though functionally KPIs like this mean nothing. I need to improve serving my readers and adding value to my audience.
In year 2 this is my main priority.
AI Supremacy has hit 8 Million Views Lifetime
The birth of the Newsletter was on December, 25th, 2021.
A lot of my highest quality readers continue to become immediate paid readers straight from the targeting of either Google or LinkedIn.
They immediately recognize the my sincerity to my craft, that my curated summaries can save them time, and that my topic choice is worth checking out and perhaps even following for months or years.

My paid audience also tends to have significant political and geographical similarities, I do not know why that is. It’s not totally surprising that the biggest U.S. states happen to be where most of my readers are from.

We Might Break 100,000 Free Readers in 2024
We are approaching 75,000.
It’s always encouraging to get more new readers and I have prioritized this in the little time I have for marketing. I’m grateful to have a thriving audience and reach a bigger total addressable market (TAM).
If this graph tells me anything, it’s that recommended readers from other Substack publications don’t convert into paid readers as a general rule. Now new changes to Gmail mean even fewer of my TAM actually get to see my Newsletter in their inbox.
Total reader is today (June 17th, 2024): 74,135.
Reader Growth since 2023 has been compounding (free readers)
However the ratio of these converting to paid readers, is not stellar. 🌈 Since Substack prides itself on being for paid subscriptions, my Newsletter has yet to make a breakthrough.
Life-work balance wise, I need to earn more revenue to be able to support this leading to a full-time living. In my quest to get my 1,000 true fans, I may need to increase prices or lower prices. Paid reader acquisition is getting harder not easier in 2024 so far.
There’s no guarantee if I decrease the cost of a paid subscription, that I would be gaining many more supporters or making more money.
Please help me by completing the quick survey: (every question is optional and there are only a very small number of questions).
