Wow! Two of my favourite AI substackers have come together to produce a gem. What a time to be alive!

Concerning the AI literacy training for teachers, I think teachers will continue facing difficulties with AI if they don't take it upon themselves to experiment with these tools individually. Too many teachers aren't tech-savyy and rely on PD workshops to upskill themselves in tech. This is a big problem for education because an education system is only as good as the teachers that teach in it.

The amazing thing about AI is the teachers have the tools already at their fingertips. I still think there is a value to good PD and AI literacy course work, but nothing replaces real practice. Teachers, see what a LLM can and cannot do. Then, experiment with different levels of integration. Not in a high stakes context, but in a getting to know you regard. Take a few risks. It will not go smoothly… but you and your students will have fun and be engaged, and your teaching practice will grow as a result!
