Why China will Catch the U.S. in 2024 in Large Language Models Innovation
The Generative A.I. race is a marathon, not a sprint. 🐲
Hey Everyone,
After a slow start and a lot of deliberation on how to censor the products of LLMs in China, their incumbents and startups are really starting to produce interesting large language models and Generative A.I. products now nearing the end of 2023.
Since GPT-4 came out and Enterprise have seen wild adoption of LLMs, things are moving fast. Apple has Ajax, Google has Gemini, and China’s superior A.I. regulation and data will give it some real advantages. China’s Government is all in on being a leader in A.I. in the 2030s.
This will mean against all the odds, China will invest in LLMs and Generative A.I. like few other countries are able or capable of doing, with predictive medium to long-term results. I wanted to break down some of the companies and startups releasing their first GAI products and foundational models in China.
China’s ChatGPT moment is likely Baidu’s Ernie 3.5.
Baidu last week secured regulatory approval in China to launch its AI chatbot, Ernie 3.5, which is seen as China's answer to OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Ernie Bot is now available for download from app stores or Baidu’s website. It has gained some pretty impressive popularity and traction in recent days. Meanwhile, Alibaba, Tencent, SenseTime and others have some pretty legit GAI products.
