Just as ChatGPT has gone viral as a free demo, TikTok continues to eat the internet. There’s a problem however, it may be used to undermine trust in America’s value system and institutions. Realistically in 2022 this is probably already happening at scale. It’s nothing short of the weaponization of A.I. for ideological, political and national interests.

And, I don’t think we talk about it enough.

A.I. ethics and privacy considerations matters now more than ever at the beginning of an era of Generative A.I. Some of us can agree that apps like Instagram and TikTok are harmful uses of algorithms, especially to young women.

I have reported on TikTok here and here, before. If TikTok is banned, YouTube needs to be spun out of Google and Instagram needs to be independent from Meta. A vast reorganization of algorithmic apps needs to take place with an independent body in charge of A.I. ethics and regulations that’s global and independent for corporate lobbying and even national government interference.

Trust and safety in A.I. entertainment apps widely needs an upgrade. The mental health risks for consumers, and A.I. governance in national security threats are simply too great to ignore. And, God knows America does ignore rule of law on the internet. Hopefully soon that will change.
