Who are /dev/agents startup? Towards a New Computing Paradigm

In the Generative AI hype cycle it’s as if all of BigTech decided that “AI agents” would be the hype trend for 2025. I hope in this article to give you a vague idea of what AI agents are and how they might be evolving next year. It’s been a while I get to talk about an AI startup that’s exciting but here we go again. Yesterday an Ex-Stripe CTO and former Meta and Google VPs launched an AI agent-focused startup that is worth talking about.

Humans have automated tasks for centuries but Generative AI frontier model leaders, BigTech and specialized pureplay AI agent startups are all promising a better tomorrow.

So What is an AI Agent?

An AI agent is a software program designed to autonomously perform tasks on behalf of users or other systems, often without human intervention.

You might recall in the OpenAI hype for AGI, this is just a stage on the path to AGI. Supposedly, Level 3. But what does this level 3 even mean and how useful will automated tasks even be to us or our productivity? It’s a big question mark. All of this demand for AI chips has to lead somewhere, but where?

Speaking of which, while a few of the main co-founders of Holistic AI (Paris based) left the company, now called Hcompany, have an interesting product and API in the works. Join their API beta list.

Hcompany says they have a flagship agent, Runner H, that will be available in said private beta on their platform. It allows, through simple natural language commands, automatic design of web automation pipelines, eliminating multi-step, tedious, manual work and revolutionizing how developers and teams approach the likes of web testing and process automation. They claim it can outperform the likes of Anthropic’s Computer Use.

Enter /dev/agents

This well funded new startup called /dev/agents, and the CEO is David Singleton. Since he was at Stripe for nearly 7 years and at Google for nearly 12 years, his team is considered to have a higher degree of confidence than most newcomers in the space.

AI agents in general are autonomous programs that perform tasks, make decisions, and interact with environments with little human input and may honestly be one of the biggest meta trends in Generative AI in the 2025 to 2030 period, regardless of whatever you think of commercial AGI.
