The Dark Side of Generative A.I.
The intersection of Cybersecurity and A.I. is bleak and dystopian
Hey Everyone,
Let’s face it, by sponsoring OpenAI the company that created ChatGPT, Microsoft let lose a whole can of worms on the state of security, malware, no-code bad actors, phishing scams and cheating, not to mention very serious data privacy violations. Will all of this catch up to Microsoft one day?
OpenAI for their part realize the data we mistakenly or absent-mindedly share into ChatGPT is potentially valuable. Fast forward a few months and there are a lot of ideas floating around and on regulating A.I. safety. Microsoft even has a Security Copilot that incorporates GPT-4 so it can be secret villain and savior all at the same time!
FTC chair Lina Khan warns AI could ‘turbocharge’ fraud and scams
I got to agree with Lina Khan on this one, Generative A.I. is a privacy and cybersecurity nightmare. If you thought cybersecurity, fraudsters and phishing experts were using A.I. before generative A.I., now they are basically augmented with a steady stream of new tools. ChatGPT’s ability to impact coding only makes matters worse.
The ability to voice clone relatives means many seniors are at risk with tons of media stories around this. What did we expect when we unleashed LLMs into the world like the wild-wild west?
The reality is due to Microsoft’s greed/ambition to take on Google in Advertising search, it will be years before the internet is a safe place again. There is serious liability here, from a macro perspective. Since Generative A.I. startups are becoming mostly Cloud vendors, it’s a race to the bottom in terms of how Microsoft uses OpenAI and Google will use Anthropic A.I., and the momentum that this builds due to the more difficult reality for startups getting funding.
Stability A.I. appears to be taking the high-road thus far. Stability AI, the startup behind the generative AI art tool Stable Diffusion, on April 18th, 2023 announced an open sourced a suite of text-generating AI models intended to go head to head with systems like OpenAI’s GPT-4.
StableLM is here.
So how is this all related? Well hear me out.
