Regional Divergence on A.I. Alignment
π A global A.I. regulatory body is being blocked by powerful elites.
Hello Everyone,
Iβve been tracking ChatGPT privacy and the state of global A.I. regulation. I believe there are significant bottlenecks here including lobbying from BigTech and possibly even National Defense departments. There is resistance to establishing a global A.I. regulatory body that is free from tampering, though that is the obvious answer. Geoffrey Hintonβs own conscience weighs on us all.
If China and the U.S. were to enter escalated states of conflict, (Ray Dalioβs post), A.I. would be weaponized like never before in human history. Many believe this is already occurring under the hood. We must avoid such a predicament at all costs, even if it means considerable anti-trust regulations on Microsoft, Google, OpenAI and all other corporations and startups that are investing in A.I. products likely to contribute more harm than good to the planet and civilization.
In this post, I wanted to share you some of my thoughts and news on what is going on in the world regarding A.I. regulation that I noticed recently. This is not coverage or synthesis you will find easily elsewhere.
Full disclosure, my bias here is against the centralization of power when it comes to the use and adoption of A.I. at scale without organized, fair, transparent and distributed global A.I. regulatory scrutiny. Which by the way, I think is a fair and reasonable bias to have.
