Nvidia's Importance in the A.I. Story
AI is at an “inflection point" and Nvidia is at the center of it.
In the story of A.I., we have to talk about Nvidia. It is almost impossible to ignore the astounding progress in artificial intelligence these days. From the new generation of generative chatbots, to the models that can generate (almost) any picture (or very soon, video), the pace of development in the AI field has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Nvidia’s stock was up 14% yesterday on future guidance and there’s an obvious reason why this is. As the artificial intelligence boom takes off, Nvidia Corp is expected to emerge as the biggest - though not the only - winner among chipmakers after years of focusing on the technology has made it a go-to supplier for tech firms.
It’s my belief that Nvidia in the 2020s will enter the BigTech pantheon of companies related to the future of artificial intelligence. I’m by no means an expert, but I’m going to try to tell you why I think that is.
As impressive as the roots of BingAI’s Sydney is and for getting early-access to OpenAI’s GPT-4, which is itself a huge advantage, Nvidia’s story feels way more important in the grand scheme of things.
AI has emerged as a bright spot for investments in the tech industry, whose slowing growth has led to widespread layoffs and a cutback on experimental bets. Generative A.I. is giving us a science-fiction vibe of open possibilities for the future of the need for more A.I. and automation in an increasing demographics winter (where men in their prime years are disappearing from the labor market) and labor supply-demand disruption.
