LinkedIn on the Future of Work
A deep dive into the hype and hypocrisy of the future of work 💼 | A.I. Skill adoption | Generative A.I. trends across industries, and for professionals.
Friends,
I continue my coverage in this piece regarding the Future of Work. This is a deep dive full of my commentary but also data and infographics from sound sources and reports by economists with access to incredible data.
For the tangible push Microsoft has made in Generative A.I. with a huge investment in OpenAI and many new products, Copilots and (forced) upgrades, its professional network, LinkedIn has access to a lot of job data and employment trends analysis.
As such, new data from LinkedIn in August has something to teach us about how AI is shaping the world of work and how professionals and companies are adapting to this emerging technology.
I wanted to take a lot of their report, and summarize some of the findings in a condensed form. Did you know?
Ireland is an A.I. hub?
Singapore is the fastest country in adopting Generative A.I.?
That LinkedIn tried to coin the alternative phrase to the “Great Resignation” and rebrand is as the bland “Great Reshuffle” ?
The forced return to office (RTO) implemented first by banks and then by BigTech companies certainly is a great reshuffle from the pandemic years. So what indeed is the future of work in this brave new world of GAI? (Generative A.I.)
Corporations have a vested interest in trying to alter our perceptions of what’s going on, and Microsoft and LinkedIn in their work on Generative A.I. is no exception. LinkedIn’s take on the future of work still provides us with good insights, however.
According to the August 2023 release of LinkedIn’s Future of Work report, Singaporean workers came in first in the world in the pace of adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills at work — or so they say at least.
Top Countries in Generative A.I. Skill Adoption

As Meta backs away from providing News, Microsoft it seems is doubling down on it. LinkedIn is today in 2023, a powerful public relations channel to key opinion influencers, managers and executives at firms. The Future of Work Report: AI at Work uncovers the latest real-time trends we see around how AI is ushering in a new era of work, based on insights from over 950 million professionals worldwide.
LinkedIn is also now acting as a PR-channel for you guessed it, OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Where Microsoft currently receives most of the benefit of the revenue OpenAI makes to repay its financial deal.
LinkedIn Says AI Skills and ChatGPT mentions are Off the Charts
So big caveat, the report in question and similar reports by LinkedIn (owned by Microsoft) have incredible ingrained bias to their own products and partners in a marketing and PR sense. That being said, they are still fairly interesting when taken as a whole and summarized for our industries, careers and professions.
