How Shopify's Adoption of Artificial Intelligence

With BigTech earnings on deck this week, I’ve been paying attention to how A.I. is being adopted at some of the world’s biggest companies.

I’m from Canada 🍁, where Shopify is really the “Amazon of the North” and has had to compete with significant competition, a pivot to remote work and a challenging last few years that included significant layoffs and cost-saving measures.

How Shopify has changed its corporate structure, product innovation, its insistence that meetings are a waste of time, is all pretty interesting to me. The stock SHOP 0.00%↑ is up nearly 84% over the last year. But perhaps their adoption of A.I. is the most interesting pattern I see.

Shopify really enables E-commerce and facilitates small businesses to grow online. Tobi Lütke is a fairly original and unusual leader. Surely to confront challenges he’d advocate the adoption of new kinds of A.I. to power entrepreneurship and stimulate E-commerce sales? Let’s try to keep track of this. They understand their customers with so much proprietary data.

With nearly 20 years of operations and millions of Store owners, certainly a facilitator like Shopify takes Generative A.I. seriously right?

Shopify personifies the independent merchant and the spirit of entrepreneurship. Surely that is an agent in society that deserves to be empowered by A.I.? Over 4.12 million ecommerce sites are built with Shopify. (Source: Builtwith.com.).

In the era of Generative A.I., will A.I. evolve to power those entrepreneurs to new heights? I wanted to take a closer look.

How successful will the A.I. powered tools Shopify is rolling out be? At its bi-annual Editions conference, the e-commerce company announced an expanded set of features under Shopify Magic, Shopify’s catch-all brand for generative AI. At the time of writing, Shopify has a market cap of $82.7 Billion. And it could be much higher.
