No, Institutionalization Will Not End Wokeness. Only Utterly Denying It Power Will. - Ethics & Public Policy Center

Hey Everyone,

While Google’s Gemini models and their new Google Gemma open-source models appear impressive and like valuable contributions for the world at large, Google always seem to mess up on their product launches, demos and public facing moments that are truly of the most inept and embarrassing varieties.

I cannot imagine what goes on within Google as a company when these situations occur almost without fail.

Google’s expertise, leadership and execution in product, product marketing and public relations seems to have declined in recent years. Google’s internal culture is also rife with division, friction and political camps.

Ben Thompson’s Stratechery noted that Google’s Gemini chatbot seemed to refuse all attempts to generate images of white men. Yet one has to take with a grain of salt what actually happens on meme-driven X. So why does Google always seem to mess up like this in terms of woke, biased or deliberately faked (dishonest) AI?

Why is that? Is it internal sabotage, flame wars of public relations on an unsympathetic platform, the triumphs of meme-culture, sentiment manipulation, or something else? And what is AI at the intersection of meme culture and a devolving internet doing to us?

Google Says it Wants to bring the Benefits of AI to Everyone

In all honesty, it makes Google hard to take seriously and hard to trust just when you wish you could afford to.

The story on X of Google’s wokeness is almost hard to believe. This is going to be a long read.
