AI Evolving our Understanding of the Human Gut
Machine learning is needed to understand the complex community of the human gut and for personalized medicine of the future.
Hey Guys,
I’m super interested in how machine learning is impacting the future of healthcare and our understanding of everything from nutrition to neuroscience of the gut microbiome’s impact on our health.
About a decade ago, the discovery of the size and complexity of the human microbiome has resulted in an ongoing reevaluation of many concepts of health and disease, including diseases affecting the CNS.
The impact of something like nutrition on mood and well-being is super impactful here. Hidden in the walls of the digestive system, this “brain in your gut” is revolutionizing medicine’s understanding of the links between digestion, mood, health and even the way you think.
So how in 2022 is A.I. contributing to this?
The number of microbiome-related studies has notably increased the availability of data on human microbiome composition and function. According to a recent paper from Michigan University, a new computer model accurately predicts behavior of millions of microbial communities from hundreds of experiments, an advance toward precision medicine.
As genomics, biotech and A.I. led drug discovery improves, I think the Gut microbiome is going to be a big deal.
The communities formed by human gut microbes can now be predicted more accurately with a new computer model developed in a collaboration between biologists and engineers, led by the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin.
The paper was published on June 23rd, 2022, read it here.
