The buzz around AI coding is reaching a feverish race for AI Supremacy in mid 2026. Just weeks from the onslaught of the biggest AI IPOs in history, the future of vibe-working is shaking the foundations of our anticipation of what becomes possible with this technology.

As much attention as Anthropic is getting, Cursor is the AI startup that I find most intriguing. While Anthropic needs to extend its partnership with Amazon (AWS) for more capacity, Cursor who famously refused to be acquired by OpenAI, is in a unique position.

Cursor (the flagship product of the startup Anysphere) is building one of the most viable “vibe-working” platforms in the world. This is the sort of interface and tech that can enable one high performing employee to do the job of what would have taken entire teams just a few years ago to accomplish.

In a shocking turn of events, SpaceX is claiming a deal with Cursor giving it the right to acquire it for $60 Billion. Is that so?

But I doubt very much Anysphere, the team behind Cursor would let itself be acquired. I asked to explain for us one of the key new things Cursor is building. While Cursor has a reputation as one of the best AI coding tools out there, it’s building something far more valuable to various kinds of professionals. I personally think it’s worth a lot more than $60 Billion.

Separately and before this was announced, Cursor (Anysphere) is seeking $2 Billion in more funding at a $50 Bn. valuation. Now this week, SpaceX said it has struck a deal with Cursor to develop a next-generation “coding and knowledge work AI,” which includes a surprising provision — an option to buy the popular software development platform for $60 billion later this year. But it sounds to me like just a model training partnership.

Cursor’s new funding round is likely to be led by Andreessen Horowitz where Nvidia and Thrive Capital are also expected to participate. I would be fairly disappointed if Anysphere was acquired just as it is showing so much momentum. They have youth and talent on their side.

So four MIT students who bet that the "AI extension" model was fundamentally broken could all be Billionaires by the end of the year. Or they could go on to build the future of Enterprise AI.

Cursor’s Momentum now has SpaceX Funding

SpaceX working with Cursor gives it an edge to catch up to Anthropic in Coding AI, while Anthropic benefits from the API usage and reliance of Cursor users on Claude models. Google Deepmind also created a “strike team” to catch up in Coding AI. Code red for OpenAI’s Codex is good for the future of AI coding which powers the momentum of Agentic AI.

• On April 20th, Alibaba Qwen recently announced Qwen3.6 Max Preview that brings stronger world knowledge and instruction following, along with significant agentic coding improvements across a wide range of benchmarks

As much attention as Claude Code, Cowork, Design and other versions of its product get, Cursor is building a very integrated platform that is quickly getting more usage, but less attention. Anysphere doesn’t have to worry about pre IPO marketing or capacity issues.

Anysphere is Nailing AI Product

Unlike OpenAI, where Cursor really shines is in product innovation. You can feel the difference in talent. Cursor has recently transitioned from being an AI-enhanced code editor to what they describe as an "Agent-First Interface." The pivot is a vibe-working masterpiece.

1. A week ago Cursor announced Interactive Canvases (Cursor 3.1).

2. On April 13th they announced Tiled Layout Interface and improved Voice input.

3. In early April Cursor announced the new Cursor. With Cursor 3, they took that a step further by building this new interface from scratch, centered around agents.

The Best Interface for AI

Cursor Glass is the codename for Cursor version 3.0, a major evolution of the AI code editor released in March 2026

Try to wrap your mind around what this means Cursor is becoming. It’s in some ways better than Codex and Claude Code. It’s the best unified platform for vibe-working and I believe its ARR over the next 18 months will reflect that. Listen to them 1 year ago on Lex.

Anysphere is the one company where the smartest young people in the world are building the future of AI.

Key Features of “Cursor Glass”

• Agents Window: A dedicated space where you can run multiple agents in parallel. For example, one agent can refactor your backend while another builds a new frontend component, each operating in its own execution thread with isolated context.

• Cloud Handoff: This allows agents to switch seamlessly between your local machine and a cloud environment mid-task. A “Cloud Agent” can continue working on complex computations or long-running tasks even after you close your laptop.

• Composer 2: The underlying engine (powering the “Glass” interface) that delivers faster coding performance and better coordination for multi-file edits.

• Design Mode: A visual-to-code feature where you can point at a UI element and describe changes in natural language; the editor then generates the code and provides a live preview for approval.

• Unified Interface: Instead of standard menus, the interface prioritizes a prompt box and an integrated “Mission Control” grid view of all active agent sessions and task threads.

The Big Picture

While Cursor is raising more funding as first reported by Bloomberg it’s now working with SpaceX, it’s already in close partnership with Anthropic. Cursor and Anthropic have historically had a close, collaborative relationship, often described as a form of "co-opetition"—simultaneously being partners/customers and competitors.

While Codex claims that it’s getting a surge in users or customers, OpenAI is in a downward spiral. Anysphere could be the major winner of Enterprise AI, not named Anthropic.

Last week, it was reported that xAI would begin renting computing power from its data centers to Cursor.

Cursor to me is more than just an AI-native code editor by Anysphere in 2026. It’s becoming valuable to professionals outside of just SWEs, like Product Managers, Designers, vibe-coders and agent orchestrators of various kinds including solopreneurs.

According to the deal, If SpaceX chooses not to exercise the buyout (at $60 Bn.), they have committed to paying Cursor $10 billion as a fee for joint development work. Honestly I don’t think SpaceX will be able to afford that acquisition due to how much money xAI is burning each month. Due to how costly orbital compute is going to be. I’m highly skeptical SpaceX can exercise the buyout option even if it wanted to.

This is easily the biggest AI news that happend this week by the way. Simply because Enterprise AI and vibe-working is the biggest AI trend of the mid 2020s.

SpaceX described the partnership as a project combining Cursor’s “product and distribution to expert software engineers” with SpaceX’s Colossus supercomputer…

In my opinion Cursor will grow revenue in 2027 like Anthropic is growing its revenue in 2026, a huge acceleration. It’s insane to give away the company for 60 Bn. It’s possible that OpenAI Startup Fund (Sam Altman) and a16z have pressured them into taking this deal. The only buyer that I would be satisfied with is if Nvidia acquired it.

SpaceX’s founder and CEO, merged the company with his AI startup xAI in February in a deal he valued at $1.25 trillion. But who knows how much the SpaceX IPO will be and likely in June, 2026, just weeks away. xAI is really behind and losing momentum in B2C since their switch to AI coding and a more Enterprise AI approach. Google, OpenAI and China is also going after the same TAM (total addressable market).

The Deep Dive into Cursor Glass

Jeff goes step by step why the new interface and platform Cursor has built is different. As a SWE and writer/teacher he has a more much nuanced understanding of this than most sources.

Cursor’s partnership with SpaceX is a compute story. Cursor will use Colossus—which utilizes roughly one million H100-equivalent GPUs—to train its next-generation "Composer" models.

With access to this level of compute, will Anysphere become a hub within SpaceX or will it build something else entirely with its own trajectory? We’re at a significant cross-roads in what the future interface of AI even looks like in 2026.

Cursor Glass is by all measures a deviation from all that has come before. Essentially, it marks a shift from a standard IDE with an AI sidebar to an "agent-first" workspace designed for parallel development. This agent first workspace is what I call a vibe-working native platform.

Cursor is the likely tool that makes mainstream Multi-Agent Parallelization. So instead of one AI working sequentially, different agents can now handle specialized tasks (e.g., one on database schema, another on API endpoints) simultaneously. That’s the point where vibe-working makes companies more productive at scale.

There, I actually said it. It doesn’t surprise me that the talent rich team at Anysphere are the ones to build it.

Among all the very well funded AI coding startups, Anysphere’s Cursor really does stand alone as the best in class. Since their seed round by OpenAI Startup Fund (i.e. Sam Altman) and Series A led by , it’s hard to fully appreciate what they are building as a leader in Enterprise AI.

Cursor has achieved one of the fastest growth trajectories in the history of SaaS, reaching $2 billion in ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) as of early 2026. It took Anysphere just 33 months from its founding in 2022 to surpass the $2 billion ARR milestone in February 2026.

Why I’m so Bullish on Cursor

Cursor is one of the fastest-growing startups ever in the AI/dev tools space scaling at just the right time in history of Generative AI. They are backed by the likes of Google and Nvidia. Their CLI is already legendary but it’s how they are adapting to Enterprise AI that raises their ceiling so much.

Cursor’s Enterprise Ceiling is Without Limit

Cursor is currently one of the fastest-growing SaaS companies at a time when legacy SaaS companies have had a massive loss of confidence. The threat of Claude Code and Opus 4.5 did something to this young startup, it made them leap ahead. 2026 is the key year for Anysphere’s development as a company.

Cursor was founded in 2022 by 4 MIT graduates—Michael Truell, Aman Sanger, Sualeh Asif, and Arvid Lunnemark. Now in 2026, Cursor makes about 60% of its revenue from Enterprise customers where large engineering organizations (like those at Nvidia, Uber, and Shopify) transitioned from pilot programs to full-scale deployments. Anysphere is just one year younger than Anthropic and by far the most promising AI coding startup getting into Enterprise autonomous agents.

Cursor has demonstrated unprecedented scaling in the AI dev tools space, outpacing competitors like GitHub Copilot or Devin. I believe Cursor’s Enterprise AI suite will become a peer of that of Anthropic. In short, I don’t see them as just an AI coding startup any longer.

Claude Opus 4.5 was one of the most anticipated models of 2025. It did not disappoint. While Gemini 3 Pro really dethroned the momentum of OpenAI, where GPT-5 related models disappointed, Anthropic I’d argue was the real winner as it will increase its annual recurring revenue (ARR) in 2026 to a degree that is hard to fathom.

Claude Opus 4.5 is a significant leap 🏆

It can do a lot more! It’s so good it will allow Anthropic to grow faster globally and with ARR in 2026 than most expect. You will see what I mean in the coming months. I’m so bullish on them people ask me if they are a sponsor (they’re not, I will disclose all sponsors 🎉). Still, you got to give them credit:

• Dramatically reduced pricing: Costs $5/$25 per million input/output tokens—one-third the price of predecessor Opus 4.1—making frontier-level intelligence more accessible.

• Robust safety and alignment: Most aligned frontier model released by Anthropic, with strong resistance to prompt injection and extensive safety evaluations.

• 200K context window: Supports large inputs for handling extensive codebases, documents, or prolonged conversations without losing coherence.

Not everything is all rosy though, as usage grows surprise usage limits seem to be appearing. Nor are they without controversy in some of the claims the CEO has made, many of which have not come to pass. His claim that AI would write 90% of code within months; ended up being misleading hype as it didn't align with reality. Amodei suggested in mid-2025 that AI could write nearly all code within months.

Claude 4.5 Opus introduces several structural improvements over previous generations, most notably the ability for users to control the model's depth of "thinking" through new parameters.

If you look at how their flagship model has evolved compared with its previous iterations, that’s where the AI talent of Anthropic really shines. In my opinion, Anthropic hasn’t gotten enough credit for being the frontier leader in AI coding. We took many of those benchmarks for granted but we don’t easily understand how this scales to execution in the 2026-2030 period. What comes next keeps the AI boom alive and well.

Anthropic is likely a mega AI startup to go IPO in late 2026 or early 2027, and then the world will know it better. We are AI enthusiasts, we so already know. It could go public at a valuation close to $500 Billion, almost unthinkable just a few years ago.

The most important AI IPO in History

Anthropic might be the biggest AI IPO of 2026, if I’m right - that they overtake OpenAI as the “generational” AI company of the early Gen AI era. OpenAI will have a bigger valuation and raise more, but is delivering less ROI to customers. This is the beginning of what I call “BigAI”. BigTech has major ownership in OpenAI and Anthropic, and Nvidia is deep in xAI.

Anthropic is owned in a big way by BigTech. Google has an equity stake of 15% and Amazon likely even more between 15-20%. Anthropic is able to leverage these Cloud partners in a better light than Microsoft having a 27% equity stake in OpenAI that’s not as collaborative. Anthropic’s Enterprise AI reach is going to be immense.

It’s my top pick for builders who want to work with a product that takes trust and saftey seriously. Anthropic’s AI talent are the highest tier of world class researchers. Their product teams are clearly very focused.

The simple fact that this company has AI coding supremacy means its trajectory is very high.

In 2025 we have witnessed marked improvements in AI coding. We’ve experienced a vibe coding trend, an augmented no-code display of what is now possible for the likes of solo-founders and product managers alike. This year we’ve witnessed the rise of Claude Code and ever better models at software engineering. We’ve seen Cursor (today’s guide topic) separate itself from the pack now working on their own frontier models, and Loveable mature as a B2C facing brand.

What is the Genesis Mission of AI in the 2020s really?

This even as the labor market tightens, consumer sentiment plummets and Trump’s approval ratings reach all-time lows. It’s an interesting and ever-present contrast to me as I cover the research and breakthroughs of AI, quantum, robotics and the semiconductor industry. As I study space-stocks and national defense Venture funding. I’m particularly worried about the prospects of U.S. college graduates in 2026. With the advent of AI, you might even proclaim the obvious: For the first time in modern history, a bachelor’s degree is no longer a reliable path to professional employment.

AI Coding and Knowledge Work Shows signs of Progress

Yet AI’s increasing capabilities in code and software development is the definitive area that consistently stands out as making the most tangible progress pre 2026. Will AI augment our capabilities in emerging technology? It’s too soon to say, but AI coding is happening now, in the 2020s, in a marked way. Even as the United States slips behind China in open-source LLMs, Energy infrastructure and research and other critical areas of Quantum and advanced materials, the United States is noticeably ahead in AI coding. With far superior GPUs, capital allocation advantages, datacenters and AI coding - how can the United States capitalize on its artificial intelligence superiority or leadership?

Three years since Gen AI has gone mainstream, in late 2025, it’s still difficult to ascertain the productivity gains of using chatbots and AI tools. But as they get better in AI coding, new possibilities begin to emerge for actual economic utility and corporate efficiency. Not just cost savings and repetitive task automation. More academics, lawyers, financial analysts, and real scientists in the field are using chatbots like Claude. When Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5 they were careful to point out the sorts of white-collar professionals their data shows are finding the most value using Claude:

Back in October, published their AI coding report. So here might be a good place to talk about that. The broader AI coding start-up ecosystem is converging with Agentic tooling. Many of the best open-source models coming out of China are now optimized for Agentic tasks. You see where this is heading right?

Anthropic, with the backing of Google TPUs and Amazon - has the best logical chance of attaining benefits from AI coding capabilities that can spill over into other areas. Just as specialized AI startups are beginning to transform Law. law firms and the tasks legal assistants used to do. While Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI represents the old world, Anthropic’s Enterprise AI will scale globally in the 2026 to 2030 period unimaginably well.

Estimate: 1.8% Productivity Growth by Mid 2030s

Neither OpenAI’s models or Google’s models can touch Anthropic in AI coding, and this opens up all business doors. Simply because software engineering is the key to so many companies. Anthropic estimates that current generation AI models could increase annual US labor productivity growth by 1.8% over the next decade.

It’s really hard for technological innovation to translate into real economic productivity gains - but from what we have learned in the the first 8 foundational years of Generative AI (2017 to 2025), Anthropic is the likely winner. Gemini is a great multimodal jack of all trades. But I don’t believe Hyperscalers will contribute as much to the future of science as they claim. It will take bold new approaches that are unlikely to manifest out of even the top talent at Google.

Anthropic’s AI Coding Supremacy is the New Frontier

• Claude Opus 4.5, released by Anthropic in late November 2025, sets new standards for AI-assisted software engineering, particularly on benchmarks that test real-world coding tasks like debugging, refactoring, and resolving issues in large codebases.

• It excels in agentic workflows, where it can plan multi-step edits, reason about dependencies, and generate precise fixes.

Anthropic’s advanced tool use capabilities can now scale into meaningful products in the years ahead.

Anthropic’s Economic Index will have a lot more data in the coming years and its AI coding capabilities will lead to recursive self-improvement (RSI) in some scientific and practical domains that might scale unexpectedly well. Combined with advantages in Quantum computing of the 2030s, there is innovation that will occur in the 21st century that’s AI mediated. Just as AI can help astronomers use senses beyond human senses that enable us to better understand the physical Universe.

The themes I’m most interested in are the rise of Claude Code and new features like Agent skills (the 4th article in the series coming soon), utility connecting it to Excel, memory and so forth. Claude’s automatic ‘memory’ upgrade is coming to Pro and Max subscribers that is of course an update for Claude that will let the AI chatbot “remember” past conversations without prompting. Max subscribers have been able to turn on Claude’s “memory” in their settings as of October 23rd.

• Amazon is set to do a huge corporate layoff wave today, October 29th that will be historic.

• 🦢 The American mirror called ChatGPT is displaying rather disturbing state of Mental Health among its users: where over 1 million people a week actively talk about suicide. The company says a similar percentage of users show “heightened levels of emotional attachment to ChatGPT” which is likely a feature and not a bug.

• The author known as of The AI Maker Newsletter wrote a viral NotebookLM article that you might want to check out here. The article is so popular it’s made him one of the 🌍 top global voices in AI for non-technical users in the world.

• Qualcomm Launches AI chips? ARM I can imagine, but I didn’t see this coming. Qualcomm officially unveiled a new line of AI chips on October 27, 2025, marking its entry into the data center AI inference market to challenge leaders like Nvidia and AMD. The chips, named AI200 and AI250, are designed for rack-scale systems that can fill an entire liquid-cooled server rack, leveraging Qualcomm’s mobile chip expertise for efficient AI performance.

More Nvidia Competitors will rise in 2026

The AI chip market is a huge market mainly dominated by Nvidia (93%) and AMD (6%). Can Qualcomm, ARM, Cambricon Technologies or Huawei change that? It will be one of the biggest stories to watch in 2026.

There’s nothing like Claude Code by Anthropic today.

In my opinion, Claude Code might be the most important Generative AI tool of 2025, and not just for developers.

Anthropic: “Deep coding at terminal velocity. Claude Code embeds Claude Opus 4.1—the same model our researchers and engineers use—right in your terminal. It has deep codebase awareness and the ability to edit files and run commands directly in your environment.”

I hope after this article you have a much more grounded and experiential understanding of what Claude Code is and how to use it.

Venture Capitalist love new vibes and narratives that can act as a bridge between the state of AI in coding today, and the possible entrepreneurs of tomorrow. The appeal of ‘speaking things into existence’ visualizes the uncanny facility of the vibe-coding trend. Evangelists (who are getting rich on consulting) have been awakened to the new meta-hype trend.

Whether real or imagined (nascent), it is appealing. It uplifts the ‘coding illiterate’ with elements of AI literacy and the idea that AI tools can empower tinkerers and professionals in new ways. It democratizes AI to the idea that anyone could in theory, build a product with the AI capabilities that are arriving in the 2020s. The Vibe coding movement of early 2025 is like a new stage of the No-code movement.

With rumors that OpenAI has made a model that’s really good at creative writing, OpenAI’s recently announced responses APIs are super interesting for the future of agents. There’s a time in the last 2020s where all of this comes together. OpenAI’s new Response APIs aim at simplifying workflows involving tool use, code execution, and state management, enhancing the interaction between users and AI models.

Meanwhile, some are insisting that Manus AI or Claude Code are themselves Vibe-coding tools. While the dream of democratizing AI, feels more DeepSeek, and open-source than OpenAI, in early 2025 there’s ample evidence that code and perhaps vibe coding is the key. Nevermind that Google and Amazon are deeply embedded in Anthropic’s product future, huge B2B Enterprise AI commercialization, and valuation/future funding now. In case you haven’t noticed, the ‘Claude wrappers’ are sort of going viral in March, 2025.

While Anysphere’s Cursor tool (Anthropic Claude based) is among the fastest growing AI startups based on this trend, tools like Loveable, Bolt and Windsurf are seeing huge pop, among others.

The Vibe Coding Narrative takes shape

According to Anton Osika, Sweden based Lovable's growth increased by almost 50% last week, now adding 1,500 customers per day.

• $10 Million ARR in 60 days sound like a good time. (Video interview)

• AI & Coding evangelists and bloggers of the stature of are frantically upgrading their SOP for using AI in their coding. But what about for the non-coding users?

The promise of tools like Replit and suddenly, everywhere in 2025. While agents might flunk out, vibe coding has its back. Vibe coding for the B2C and Agentic AI for the B2B crowd. Because this is as much about lobbying and marketing, as it is about reality.

I’m noticing two interesting ideas that are going to evolve in parallel in the future of work.

One represents AI reasoning models that will utilize agentic workflows to iterate on how we have done science traditionally (for example, science here but could be anything), like Google’s recent AI Co-Scientist, and the other a new kind of kind of vibe worker in the future of work that is enabled by a new set of tools.

Think about this for a moment if you will:

What’s clear is AI changes how we will be iterating along the lines of R&D but also how we build companies, products and “create” fundamentally as human beings. ⚗️

Google’s AI Co-Scientist launched on February 19, 2025, is an innovative system designed to assist scientists in generating novel hypotheses and refining research proposals, ultimately accelerating the pace of scientific discovery.

It’s not clear if either of these two approaches will radically alter the future of work, but they could certainly continue to evolve in the 2020s along very interesting directions.

What is Vibe Coding?

1. Vibe coding is a new approach to software development that utilizes AI tools to assist individuals in creating applications and software without requiring extensive programming knowledge.

2. The term was popularized by Andrej Karpathy, an AI expert, who described it as a method where users interact with AI using natural language to describe their ideas rather than writing traditional code directly.

3. This allows creators, particularly those lacking technical skills, to build functional applications rapidly by simply explaining their requirements to the AI, which generates the relevant code for them.

AI-Assisted Iteration: How Vibe Coding Works 🔥

The process of vibe coding typically involves several key steps:

1. Describe Your Idea: Creators start by articulating what they want to build in clear, descriptive language.

2. AI Code Generation: The AI takes these descriptions and generates the necessary code.

3. Iterate and Refine: Users can request modifications and improvements by communicating additional requirements or asking for fixes. The AI can adjust the generated code in response to feedback.

As of 2025, it does seem like Vibe coding is indeed a real concept gaining traction, particularly in the realms of non-technical software development.

• In a nutshell: Vibe coding democratizes software development by allowing those without coding expertise to turn their ideas into digital products.

When having an idea can be enough…

This is a new kind of No-Code Entrepreneurship

So how does the improving of Generative AI in software engineering change how humanity relates to code?

Traditional Coding

• Skills Required: Programming languages, frameworks, debugging

• Development Process: Write code line by line, debug, test

• Time Investment: Weeks/months to learn, days/weeks to build

• Flexibility: Unlimited (can build anything)

• Relationship to Code: Direct manipulation of all code

Low-Code Platforms

• Skills Required: Basic understanding of programming concepts

• Development Process: Drag-and-drop components, configure settings

• Time Investment: Hours/days to learn, days to build

• Flexibility: Limited to platform capabilities

• Relationship to Code: Abstracted, rarely see the code

Vibe Coding

• Skills Required: Natural language communication skills

• Development Process: Describe what you want, iterate through conversation

• Time Investment: Minutes to learn, hours to build

• Flexibility: Extensive but with limitations on complexity

• Relationship to Code: The code exists but you may never read it

Now I’m not a techno-optimist like Azeem Azhar or many of the X AI bros, but I think over time as AI gets better at coding and iterating, it will lower the bar to some kinds of innovation and entrepreneurship. This as our reasoning models get better at managing AI agents and their evolving workflows. Vibe coding and the vibe worker is essentially an extension of our own BYOAI approach to elevating our game with AI.

I don’t think Vibe coding represents the next step in the evolution of software development where we describe intent rather than write code, but I think No-code is going to evolve with AI and how we are augmented by it will change radically over the next decade. Vibe coding suits GenZ and Alpha cohorts values alignment towards new forms of entrepreneurship and the search for more autonomy, flexibility and work-life balance and trends we are seeing like a four day work week.

Thus vibe coding as a trend will enable and make solopreneurship more viable and make self-employment more flexible, automated and potentially more profitable. Imagine a world where it will be more viable to start a small business, with less risk? Keep in mind Generative AI has been harming the demand for many kinds of freelancers, so we need to adapt. Vibe workers might realize the new minimum viable products (MVPs) they can build suddenly! Suddenly because, what you can do today wasn’t possible previously perhaps even a few months ago.

I think vibe coding has relevance to how Creators build flywheels and diversify their revenue sources. We have to be realistic though, for most and mainstream adoption this is a long way off from today’s tools and agentic frameworks. Claude Code has enormous potential, and with Anthropic expanding globally in the 2025 to 2030 period, they are the company most likely to make vibe coding and vibe entrepreneurship a reality. Many of the high-flying AI startups to reach 100 million ARR in record short time for example, are based on Claude’s technology and relate to the vibe coding trend directly.

If you are interested, explains even how to vibe code. Naturally, I expect to see a lot more articles and guides on vibe coding and all that it might mean in terms of Agentic AI and new advances in how we use Generative AI and AI tools to iterate, build, create and bring ideas into reality.

There’s something minimalistic about vibe coding that’s also endearing somehow:

Benefits of Vibe Coding

1. Accessibility: Vibe coding democratizes software development, enabling non-programmers to create tools and applications that meet their needs without having to learn complex programming languages.

2. Speed: This method significantly reduces the time taken to develop an application. What once required weeks or months can now be achieved in hours or even minutes.

3. Cost-Effectiveness: Reducing the need for hiring developers for simple applications can be financially beneficial for individuals and small businesses.

However Generative AI is also enabling software engineers to be more productive, which has more tangible and immediate value for technology and startups. Even the process of learning to code is changing. As we explore AI tools and how we can integrate AI agents into our workflows vibe coding suddenly becomes a lot more viable. Whatever you think of tools like Cursor and Loveable, AI tools will keep getting better and perhaps engineer a viable path for vibe coding, especially if the trend gains momentum.

The recent updates on OpenAI and Google’s AI tools will change learning to code in 2025.

Tools we know well like ChatGPT and Gemini just received some updates that make learning to code easier and less frustrating. Also, new tools like NotebookLM are changing how we learn new subjects and coding is one of them.

In this article, we’ll explore how to make the most of these new AI features for learning to code. Since I often write about the Python programming language, I’ll use Python as an example. However, everything discussed here can be applied to other programming languages as well.

Canvas is a new interface for working with ChatGPT on writing and coding projects. Thanks to Canvas now you can use ChatGPT as if it was your AI code editor.

This is a feature that I’d definitely use if I had to learn Python again because it allows us to do many things within ChatGPT such as running Python code, debugging code, and asking in-line feedback, and suggestions.

To use Canvas, just ask ChatGPT to write a simple “Hello World” script, and then click on view tools and select “Canvas.” Once you press enter, you’ll see a panel on the right. That’s your Python environment where you can test your code. Just click on run every time you modify your code and the results will be printed on the console below.

If you’re new to coding, things like installing Python, and setting up your code editor and environment might seem intimidating and frustrating at first. Fortunately, now you can skip these steps and focus on learning to code thanks to ChatGPT Canvas.

You can also import Python libraries using ChatGPT Canvas. In the example below, Canvas imports matplotlib and numpy to do a task common in data analysis which is plotting visualizations. You can import many other libraries, but remember that there’s a limited number of libraries available.

Canvas has a button located in the bottom-right corner that displays many features useful for developers and software engineers. These features are:

• Review code

• Port to a language

• Fix bugs

• Add logs

• Add comments to your code

Besides Canvas, it’s worth mentioning other ways to learn Python with ChatGPT. My favorite is brainstorming unique projects with ChatGPT. Why projects? It’s the best way to put the concepts you learned into practice.

We can use ChatGPT to come up with cool and unique project ideas based on the programming knowledge we have and the things we like.

Here’s the prompt I use for this.

Act as a programming mentor. I’m learning Python and have already learned [topic 1, topic 2, …]

What Python projects can I solve? Consider that I like [thing 1, thing 2, …]

Here’s an example.

Once you select a project, you can ask for the steps to solve it (without making ChatGPT write the code for you).

In a previous article, I covered other ways to use ChatGPT to learn Python. While some of those suggestions can now be accomplished with just one click using Canvas, others remain relevant.

Turn Gemini into your real-time AI tutor

Gemini is Google’s AI model, which was recently upgraded to Gemini 2.0. One of the new features of Gemini 2.0 is real-time screen sharing. This feature allows us to share our screens with Gemini, enabling it to analyze on-screen content and provide real-time assistance.

As programmers, we can allow Gemini 2.0 to view our screen and provide real-time guidance for solving any coding problem we encounter.

Anyone with a Google account can use this feature for free. To use it, go to this site, click on “stream realtime” on the left panel, and select “share screen.” After that, Gemini will see your screen and you can talk with it in real-time.

You can open your code editor, start writing code, and ask for guidance from Gemini whenever you need it. Here’s a demo where I asked Gemini for help to create a Python script that generates ten random numbers.

This is like having an AI tutor that can see whatever you’re working on 24/7. As a beginner, you can use Gemini to write a script, remember functions, learn terminal commands, set up your code environment, and more!

Improve the way you learn to code with NotebookLM

NotebookLM is an AI-powered research and note-taking tool developed by Google. You can use NotebookLM to:

• Convert long documents (PDFs, slides, links) into easy-to-understand summaries

• Build your own study guides effortlessly

• Create a podcast where an AI host walks you through complex material in minutes

This is game-changing for learning new subjects. That’s why I think this tool will change the way you learn coding.

How do I use NotebookLM to learn Python? I use it to better understand any Python tutorial or guide I’m following and even go beyond that by asking questions about the content in the video or guide. To do this, go to NotebookLM, and then provide the link to a YouTube tutorial or Python guide, book, etc. Once you upload your file, NotebookLM will analyze its content and then we can start a chat with it.

In the example below, I gave NotebookLM a link to my tutorial on how to send emails with Python. Once it analyzed the video’s transcript, I could ask it questions like the libraries used in the video or what I should keep into account before writing the script to send emails with Python.

If you want to go beyond the tutorial, just generate a podcast from the document uploaded. To generate the podcast, just go to the Audio Overview section and click on Generate. After some minutes, NotebookLM will generate an engaging audio discussion between two AI-generated hosts. The discussion is a summary of the material with some extra information that will help you deep diver into the topic and even learn new things.

GitHub Copilot: A general-purpose AI coding assistant

Here’s a bonus for those with some coding experience: GitHub Copilot.

GitHub's AI tool is a game-changer for real-time code writing. What's cool about it is that it offers an interaction style similar to ChatGPT, but it's focused on coding. Plus, it can keep building out a program you're working on in the editor.

One feature that really stands out to me is the chat function. You can literally quiz it about constructing functions or clear up any doubts about specific bits of your code. It's like having a coding guru on standby, ready to jump in with insights or solutions.

Something I like about Copilot is that it doesn't just stop after giving a response. It keeps the ball rolling, offering up possible questions I might want to ask next or things to consider. Below is how Copilot completed a Fibonacci function and the follow-up questions it generated.

It's like having an ongoing conversation with your code!

Plus, there's a feature that lets you move the suggested code into your editor. This creates a seamless flow, letting you bounce between the chat and the editor.

If you want to multitask within the editor, you can get the Copilot chat by pressing Ctrl + i.

Here are some of my favorite commands:

I have to say Copilot is one of my favorite tools. It's like having the best of ChatGPT, but baked right into your IDE, making coding effortless and more efficient. You can add the GitHub Copilot extension to Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, and Neovim.

Vibe Coding Continued

There is a lot of debate on places like Reddit and X about whether Vibe coding is the future.

When combining prompting, AI agent workflows and new platforms there is a science to the madness. You could learn to be a vibe worker right now with the tools that are currently available. You could dive deep and never look back!

Vibe coding is obviously a lot more than making a rudimentary game from scratch, and what no-code becomes will depend in part on how well Generative AI keeps evolving.

Vibe coding is an innovative approach enabling creators to develop software by simply describing their ideas, aided by AI tools.

As agentic workflows get better, they will also be optimized for the vibe worker and vibe coder. All of this is live and in development rapidly today.

Make no mistake though, vibe coding is a manufactured trend by Silicon Valley for profit.

In talking with Natalia Luka about the future of work, vibe coding is an American narrative and tactic created to stimulate mainstream adoption especially as she pointed out to me, that there are with Generative AI disproportionately larger efficiency gains for less talented workers. Vibe coding could uplift those most with less education a shape a world where talent matters less than ability to interface with AI for entry level workers.

This has some pretty profound consequences if I’m reading the “vibe coding” trend right. The vibe worker is speculative, it’s a hypothesis about what Generative AI might do to the world. This would require no-code AI tools are much more effective than they are today and that prompting and agentic AI workflows get a lot easier to use.

Vibe coding might also not be that sustainable:

Who is Vibe Coding Optimized For?

New vibe worker tools specialized to different industries are highly likely to manifest. This is just the evolution of no-code rebranded. How we use these interfaces and tools together is also likely to become more optimized with better UX, agentic and AI supported workflows. In theory, building a product or even starting a startup, might become a lot easier in the next decade.

Less educated people and nations might also have greater incentives to adopt a vibe-coding or vibe worker lifestyle. Generative AI has a greater impact uplifting people and that really interests me. Could vibe coding be an empowerment movement of democratizing AI that has economic repercussions? While beyond the scope of this article, this may have future of work implications.

Who will be the vibe workers of the future? I don’t see white collar folk dropping their careers to become vibe coders, if you know what I mean. I see global youth adopting vibe coding and building products as side-gigs or finding alternative careers paths. It’s a novelty in 2025 that could turn into a real trend.

According to new Stanford University-led research examining over 300 million text samples across multiple sectors, AI language models now assist in writing up to a quarter of professional communications. It's having a large impact, especially in less-educated parts of the United States.

Let’s face it, Vibe coding might be even more seductive than writing tools. If I’m living in places with a higher demographics of young people with higher youth unemployment, Vibe coding might be my ticket to a better future. What do you think?
